Alexandrite
Alexandrite, a rare gem, has the unique characteristic of changing color when exposed to different types of light. For instance, under daylight alexandrite turns a shade of green and under artificial incandescent light the gem turns a raspberry red. This color changing gem makes for truly beautiful vintage alexandrite rings.
The birthstone of June, Alexandrite is also the gemstone for ones 45th and 55th marriage anniversary. Add to this the history and uniqueness that a hand crafted vintage ring has and you will have an excellent gift.
Discovery of Alexandrite
Alexandrite was named after a young Czar of Russia, Alexander II. This was due in part because vast deposits of the gem were originally discovered in Russia around 1830 in the Ural Mountain, though there is some controversy to this story of discovery.
Alexandrite later became Russia’s official gem as the red and green coloring resembles their flag. It is believed that many of the gems in vintage alexandrite rings are from Russia as it was the main source until Alexandrite was discovered in other parts of the world in the 1990s.
Folklore of Vintage Alexandrite Rings

Other beliefs of the gem include the ability to strengthen one’s intuition increases their ability to move forward in situations where logic breaks down, increase a person’s happiness and self-esteem, and provide health benefits in the form of improving the central nervous system.
